Geometry in Your Neighborhood

Description: Students will take photos of objects in their daily lives that are examples of geometric objects and relations, and write a brief description of what the photo shows.  These can be shared online (see below).

Options:  This is a good activity for edmodo.  It is also a good "twinning" activity with another school.  Students can update throughout the year as they learn new concepts.

Standards: Understanding definitions of geometrical objects.
Examples of Objects:
  • parallel lines
  • perpendicular lines
  • congruent objects
  • similar objects
  • triangles (identify which type)
  • quadrilaterals (identify which type)
  • circles
  • parabolas
  • prisms
  • cylinders
